Investing in Workplace Literacy and Numeracy with 26TEN
Blueline is part of a government-funded initiative by 26TEN to improve literacy and numeracy for our employees.
26TEN helps businesses, community groups, government, educators and individuals to work together to lift literacy and numeracy rate so all Tasmanian adults have the skills they need for work and life.
Many of our workers have trouble in reading signs, reading documentation, writing simple reports or notes, adding up numbers, packing orders etc. Increasing their basic skills in these areas will make them more efficient and effective in what they do, make them safer in the workplace and will also assist them in the broader community.
Blueline Laundry, in partnership with Work and Training, will use the grant to employ tutors in both our Hobart and Launceston laundries to work with people individually and in small groups on developing their skills in literacy and numeracy. The tutors will use Blueline documentation as part of the learning materials and will work towards the development of more accessible documentation during the learning process.
The grant will fund up to 25 staff in each site to undertake literacy and numeracy training and will help to develop at least 2 literacy and numeracy mentors in each site.
Bringing literacy and numeracy training into the workplace will lead to better work quality and productivity, improved workplace safety, more compliance, teamwork and communication.
